March 2012: David Ash

David’s Bio:

David Ash is never short of new ideas.  He is, in the purest sense, a Serial Entrepreneur.  In recent years his primary focus has been Commercial Real Estate investment. He owns and operates Sportsplex, an ice hockey arena in Langley B.C, the community where he and his family live.

David is equally described as a “Social Entrepreneur”.  Over the past 10 years he has founded and funded two transitional housing programs in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side, The Vivian and The Dodson Neighborhood House Foundation.

The Vivian is home to 24 of Vancouver’s “hardest to house” women.  It offers supportive housing designed for women living with mental health and addictions issues.

The Dodson is a seventy-room rooming house that offers clean, safe, and supportive housing to its residents who struggle with a wide variety of mental, physical, and drug addictions issues.

David also sits on the International Advisory Board for The University of the Nations YWAM, (Youth With A Mission).  He and his family have traveled extensively with YWAM volunteering and partnering in a variety of humanitarian and community development projects around the world.  YWAM is an international volunteer movement of Christians from many backgrounds.  They currently operate in 1,000 locations in over 180 countries, with a staff of over 18,000.

In 2005, David received The Kaufmann Foundation’s Community Service Award, is a long-standing member of EO, The Entrepreneur’s Organization, and is a graduate of the Entrepreneurial Education program Birthing of Giants, sponsored by Inc. Magazine.
